Well sorry not today. But I was just watching the news and it appears that there was a large eruption early today. Before I arrived in Kagoshima.
Let’s backtrack a little. I left Fukuoka this morning and took the Shinkansen to Kagoshima. The last city at the bottom of Japan. Other than the islands of Okinawa, Kagoshima is just about as far as you can go without catching a ferry, and the very last stop on the Shinkansen.
It’s a small city, but with lots of character. There is trams (streetcars), a few really great galleries, some beautiful parks and shopping. However, it does have one big draw card. Just across the bay, only maybe a kilometre, is an island that has one of the largest active volcanos in Japan. Yes it so close it’s a bit scary. But if this is all the comes out of an active volcano…
